The Sublime, Timeless Wisdom of Arianna Huffington Somehow Reduced to Ashes By Anonymous Commenter at Green Room

A bruising retort to Arianna Huffington ("Laissez-Faire Capitalism Should Be as Dead as Soviet Communism") appeared in a comment at Hot Air's Green Room. Suffice it to say that Arianna loses the debate with our anonymous commenter -- badly.

The free market did not cause this crisis, the government did.

The free market did not create Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae and Sallie Mae, the government did.

The free market did not pass laws that forced banks to lend to those who do not qualify for a loan, the government did.

The free market did not take us off the gold standard, the government did.

The free market did not dump trillions of dollars of cheap money into the system causing the largest asset bubble in history, the government did.

The free market did not create multiple multi-trillion-dollar unfunded entitlement programs, the government did.

The free market did not write a 60,000+ page tax code that punishes work, rewards sloth and buys the votes of special interest groups, the government did.

The free market did not destroy public schools with forced unionization of teachers and a systematic failure to teach generations of students civics and financial literacy, the government did.

The free market did not drive our jobs overseas and kill our entrepreneurial spirit with over-taxation, over-regulation and frivolous lawsuits, the government did.

The free market did not ban drilling for oil, vilify coal and block the building of nuclear power plants in the United States, thereby transferring hundred of billions of dollars of American wealth and many thousands of energy-industry jobs to foreign countries, the government did.

This crisis is the result of a giant social engineering experiment and vote-buying scheme gone tragically wrong.

The free market does not try to engineer society or buy votes, the government does.

The government caused this crisis, the free market did not.

The government cannot fix the crisis, the free market can.

Word.

Only the free market can.

There is an issue that has fundamental importance at the "atomic level" of the economy: the only form of peaceful economic interaction where both parties increase their wealth is free exchange.

Every other form of interaction implies that one or both parties will have a reduction in wealth.

The left loves to claim the moral high ground with respect to peace, yet every single scheme that allows government to intervene and intrude in voluntary exchange destroys both wealth and liberty.

This is why the free market is the ONLY way to prosperity, that is unless someone wants to become either a thief or a parasite, which we are well on our way to allowing government to become.

Socialism offers us a fraudulent bargain: that we can live at the expense of others if we would only allow them to live at our expense. Such a scheme can only be built upon lies, coveting and theft, all violations of the Commandments.

Please name one social or economic problem the feds have SOLVED. Everything they touch or manage rapidly turns to s**t.

Let's see:

The federal tax code was almost entirely written by Republicans.

Greenspan is a Republican.

Nixon removed the gold peg.

I'm not sure why tea partiers continue to smear Soros. I guess their billionaire sugar daddies don't like him.

The CRA didn't force anyone to give a loan. The GLBA did help destroy the banking system, though.

Lies are effective weapons for the welfare queen tea partiers who are subsidized significantly by taxes paid by Democrats. "Blue" states tend to receive less federal spending than taxes paid while "red" states tend to receive more federal dollars than taxes paid. No wonder those states are "self sufficient".

Pretty good arguments against letting Tea Partiers or Republicans anywhere near government. Good job, guys.

School segregation and racial discrimination in business and hiring practices.

If the market had been capable of resolving these issues it would have happened through consumer activity. However it didn't, the federal government had to forcibly integrate schools and prevent businesses from racial discrimination by the threat of legal prosecution.
